Interactive Performance Conference

Hosted by:
The Interactive Performance Lab
at the University of Central Florida
Orlando, Florida, March 14-16, 2008

The First Conference on Interactive Performance is being hosted by the Interactive Performance Lab in association with the University of Central Florida, with an inaugural topic of "Interactive Narrative."

The conference will take place at the UCF Center for Emerging Media, located in the heart of downtown Orlando at 500 West Livingston, Orlando, FL 32801.

Interactive Performance is a unique discipline that combines live performance and digital media, to empower ordinary people with the ability to play inside an interactive story. This principle can be manifest in many different applications, ranging from fictionalized adventures that center around the participant as the story protagonist - to serious training scenarios, enhanced by realistic human-to-human interaction. By retaining the live component, it is possible to give the participant complete freedom, without relinquishing authorial intent – leading to more satisfying stories, and more effective training.

This invitation-only conference is an opportunity for professionals in the academic and commercial worlds to gather as a community, in order to create functional and emotionally resonant interactive stories. It is a chance to test theories that were heretofore un-testable, propose new ideas and projects, and to be part of the core creative foundation that will develop Interactive Performance into an internationally recognized discipline.

We believe that an association built from diverse studies including performance, story, computer science, and behavioral psychology, is essential to making this goal a reality.
